0
This release is a combination of all other Word bibliography style releases in this project. This release gets updated whenever one of the other releases gets updated. To get more information on the different styles and how to use them, check the styles page.

Style names ending on a * indicate that the BibWord Extender tool is needed to use their complete functionality.

Installation on Windows (Word 2007/2010/2013)

To use the bibliography styles, they have to be copied into the Microsoft Word bibliography style directory. This directory can vary depending on where Word is installed:
Word 2007
<winword.exe directory>\Bibliography\Style
On most 32-bits machines with Microsoft Word 2007 this will be:

    %programfiles%\Microsoft Office\Office12\Bibliography\Style
Once the styles are copied to the directory, they will show up every time Microsoft Word is opened.
Word 2010
<winword.exe directory>\Bibliography\Style
On most 32-bits machines with Microsoft Word 2010 this will be:

    %programfiles%\Microsoft Office\Office14\Bibliography\Style
Once the styles are copied to the directory, they will show up every time Microsoft Word is opened.
Word 2013
<user directory>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Bibliography\Style
On most machines with Micrososft Word 2013 this will be:

    %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Bibliography\Style
Once the styles are copied to the directory, they will show up every time Microsoft Word is opened.

Remark: the types.xml included with the stylesheets should be used in combination with BibType to create some extra fields for the different types.

Installation for Word 2008 or 2011 for Mac

To use the bibliography styles, right-click on Microsoft Word 2008 and select show package contents. Put the files in:

    Contents/Resources/Style/
On most Macs with Microsoft Word 2008 this will be:

    /Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Microsoft Word.app/Contents/Resources/Style/

Installation for Word 2016 for Mac (version 15.17.0 and up)

To use the bibliography styles, place them in the following folder

    /Library/AppSupport/Microsoft/Office365/Citations/

Extending sources with YearSuffix and BibOrder

The BibWord Extender tool can be used to extend the capabilities of BibOrder. It allows the addition of year suffices to certain styles as well as alphabetical numbered ordering.

Check the BibWord Extender wiki page on how to use the tool on both Windows and Mac OS X. Note that Mac OS X users will have to download an extra library from the latest release. A link to the latest release can be found at the top of the BibWord Extender wiki page.

Introduction

BibWord makes it easier to create and manipulate Microsoft Word citation and bibliography styles. BibWord also resolves several limitations of the basic implementation by Microsoft.
For end-users, BibWord offers a collection of easy to use styles.

BibWord Extender
A tool for creating numeric in-text citations based on the ordering of the bibliographic entries. With some styles, it can also be used to generate year suffices.

For Developers (updated September 27, 2009)

Tools

  • BibWord - A template for the creation of Word 2007/2008 bibliography styles. Styles created using the template can be easily maintained or adjusted by others.
  • BibWord Extender - An extension of BibWord for creating both numeric in-text citations based on the ordering of the bibliographic entries and year suffices. This can only be used with BibWord styles.
  • BibType - A command-line tool for the creation and adaptation of the content of the GUI for editing sources within Word 2007(bibform.xml).

FAQ

  • List of FAQ questions for people creating their own stylesheets from scratch or adjusting the predefined Word 2007 bibliography styles.

A number of older stylesheets and templates. They are no longer supported.

  • IEEE style v.2.5 - an older pre-BibWord version of the IEEE style. Use the BibWord replacements instead.
  • Template using a two column layout for bibliographies.
  • Template with extension capabilities such as sorting.
  • BibOrder - An extension of BibWord for creating both numeric in-text citations based on the ordering of the bibliographic entries and year suffices. This can only be used with BibWord styles.(deprecated, use BibWord Extender instead)

New Post: THESIS REFERENCING

Hey guys. So I am doing my thesis and I believe I prefer something close to the Harvard System. I am doing it in Spanish if that helps any. I wonder if there is a system for Word 2013 that looks like this:

1.Bibliography:
LAST NAMES, First Names (Year). The Book Title in Cursive. City Published In: Publisher.

[*] If the book title has subtitles, it just goes on after the first period (.) and still in cursive.

[*] In this case, I have found APA to be exactly on point.

2.References (which I move to the bottom of the page):

LAST NAMES First Names, Title of the Book: Subtitle, 2ºed., Ed. Franklin, City of Publisher, Year, p. 000

[*] The rules let me write the title in Regular, Bold, Cursive or Cursive and Quotation Marks if I choose.

[*] ed. = Edition number. First Edition, Second...

[*] Ed. = Publisher. Can include Ed. (as in Editor) or leave it out.

[*] Year = Year it was published. I can include the word itself in front (e.g. 2009 or Year 2009)

[*] p. 000 = Page number, which can be p. 000, pag. 000 or pg. 000, and can include a whole range (like 000 - 001).

After the first citation of a source I am also supposed to use "op. cit." "ibid." and the like. However I've been reading on this and it seems it's not available as no one has decided to code all that in, so I could just do this last part manually if there's really no other way.

New Post: Sorting "insert citation" list in Word 2013

Hello,
Can anybody help me with sorting "insert citation" list? It is by default sorted by b:First instead of b:Last, so to have it properly displayed, I have to change all "firsts" into "lasts" in all files regarding citations (style, author etc.).
Where the hack can I find the file that determines the way of sorting under this button?
Best,
Stefan

(word 2016 macOS) I don´t know if I'm the only one with this error but... When using Vancouver style is the reference number in the text is supposed to be in "super index" format and without parenthesis. But it isn't like that, it appears normal and with parenthesis, there is any way to solve this? Am I doing something wrong??
Thank you for you help. And for all your work!

Created Unassigned: In-text citations problem [12380]

Excellent work. Unlike Microsoft's files, BibWord makes possible to create new styles or modify them according to the editors requirements, with minimum effort (and xslt knowledge). Being a professional author of scholarly texts, this is great and I recommend my students to use it for their papers.

I'd like to ask whether there is a way to have the authors' initials appear in the in-text citations, only for different authors with the same last name.

Example:
(Peterson K., 2008; Peterson R.A., 2002; Lewis, 1999; Rogers, 1965)

Two different Petersons, but only one Lewis and only one Rogers. Some styles, including APA, require that in this case the authors' initials should be mentioned too.

I guess that an additional option is needed for %First% and %Middle% in the <namelists> (<first_person> and <other_persons>) that would allow initials to appear for non-unique author names. An additional template, checking for non-unique author names is also needed. Unfortunately, my knowledge to create this option and the corresponding template, is insufficient.

Another option, I guess, would be to include this in a new BibWordExtender version, which anyway resolves the significant problems with the year extensions.

Thanks for any help

New Post: How to set different author order between bibliography and footnote citation?

Hi,
after reading some post in the forum and doing different guesses I manage to put the author (editor) in different order in footnote citation and in the bibliography.
In the template under namelist tag I`ve put another field with the following definitions:
<list name="author" id="4">
        <single_prefix></single_prefix>
        <multi_prefix></multi_prefix>
        <corporate>{%Corporate%}</corporate>
        <first_person>{%First%}{ %Middle%}{ %Last:u%}</first_person>
        <other_persons>{%First%}{ %Middle%}{ %Last:u%}</other_persons>
        <separator_between_if_two> - </separator_between_if_two>
        <separator_between_if_more_than_two> - </separator_between_if_more_than_two>
        <separator_before_last> - </separator_before_last>
        <max_number_of_persons_to_display>3</max_number_of_persons_to_display>
        <number_of_persons_to_display_if_more_than_max>1</number_of_persons_to_display_if_more_than_max>
        <overflow> et al.</overflow>
        <single_suffix></single_suffix>
        <multi_suffix></multi_suffix>
</list>
also in the footnote citation I've changed to:

        <format>{%Author:4|Editor:5%}{, <i>%Title%{ Tomo %Volume%:%ShortTitle%}</i>{, %Comments%}}{, %Publisher%}{, %City%}{ %Year%{%Edition%}{, %CitationPages%}.}</format>

Bibliography order remains as the original.

I'm still looking how to change to Ibid o Op. Cit if the book is already citated.
I hope this clues can help you puting the template in the order you need.

P.S sorry for my english

Hola

I contacted technical support microsoft, and they told me that the version of the plugin is out of date because it is the year 2007. Did you guys have a 2013 version of this plugin?

The current version on this site works with any version of Word for Windows or Mac starting from Word 2007. Note that the place to put the file depends on the version of Word. For more information, see the installation instructions under the documentation tab.

New Post: Important vs Recommended fields

According to the BibWord documentation,
For each type of source supported by the stylesheet, a set of important fields can be defined. Those are the fields which are shown by default by Word when adding a new source to a document.
However, in Word 2011 for Macintosh, it has no effect on which fields are shown in the "Edit Source" or "Create New Source" dialogs. What it does change is which fields are marked as "Recommended fields" in the dialogs. I haven't tested this behavior in other versions of Word.

1) Is it possible to change which fields are shown?

2) If not, could the documentation be changed to "Those are the fields which are marked as Recommended by Word when adding a new source to a document."?

I am not managing to make this work in any way. I have Word 2016 version 16.0.4266.1001 64 bit version. I have downloaded it to the roaming directory (User\Me\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Bibliography\Styles). Just in case, I also downloaded it to the Office 16 stylesheets in program files. But nothing seems to show up any way I try. Any help out there?
