New Post: IEEE Style Citation numbering

$

Hi

I've made a bibliography with the IEEE Numbering style and it works fine.

[1] Author A, Title A, ....

[2] Author B, Title B, ....

[3] Author B, Title C, ....

...

But now I try to insert some citations into my document, but the displayed numbers in text are wrong.

For example: I want to add a cite from Auhor B, Title B -> In bib [2], but the citation in my text always displays [1]. If I add some more citations it's only counting up the numbers and doesn't display the number of the bib entry. The hyperlink itself is ok and word jumps to the correct place in the bibliography.

Hope someone knows a solution to this issue or do i use IEEE wrong?

Greetings

Joe

The in-text citations and bibliography in Word are nothing more than fields. Hence they need to be updated after changes are made.

Try selecting another style from the dropdown and then select the IEEE style back. This will force two updates, but is probably the easiest way to fix things if you are not really familiar working with Word.

Thanks for the tips.  Although, I'm not very strong atprogramming and this language seems a bit confusing.  I was wondering if there are samples or similar styles with which I can compare the existing APA and make changes accordingly.  If you're aware of such codes, my main issues that I cannot find a way around are the two authors names, changing & to 'and', and making et al. italics.

I’m in the process of adapting the Anglia Rushkin University 2008 style sheet to suit a particular version of APA style. There are many changes to consider, but for your citation query try editing the style sheet like this:

<namelists>

<listname="citation"id="1">

<single_prefix></single_prefix>

<multi_prefix></multi_prefix>

<corporate>{%Corporate%.}</corporate>

<first_person>{%Last|First|Middle%}</first_person>

<other_persons>{%Last|First|Middle%}</other_persons>

<separator_between_if_two>and</separator_between_if_two>

<separator_between_if_more_than_two>,</separator_between_if_more_than_two>

<separator_before_last>and</separator_before_last>

<max_number_of_persons_to_display>2</max_number_of_persons_to_display>

<number_of_persons_to_display_if_more_than_max>1</number_of_persons_to_display_if_more_than_max>

<overflow>,<i> et al.</i></overflow>

<single_suffix></single_suffix>

<multi_suffix></multi_suffix>

</list>

I’m new to this and I’m also finding my way around. I haven’t tried this to see how it outputs.

To juggle abbreviations in citation names for an inserted citation, select the ‘edit citation’ option after clicking on the citation and suppress the author, leaving just the year so you can add the names as you choose. Some permutations will require the entire citation to be converted to static text so you can edit it the way you want. (Don’t convert citations to static text with track changes ‘on’ – the citation will disappear off your screen. Switch track changes off, convert to static, and then switch track changes back on.)

I hope this helps. As always, no warranties are given and you proceed at your own risk. Back up your data before trying any changes.

Apologies, my last post came out in html.

This is the plain text for the coding:

<namelists>
<list name="citation" id="1">
<single_prefix></single_prefix>
<multi_prefix></multi_prefix>
<corporate>{%Corporate%.}</corporate>
<first_person>{%Last|First|Middle%}</first_person>
<other_persons>{%Last|First|Middle%}</other_persons>
<separator_between_if_two> and </separator_between_if_two>
<separator_between_if_more_than_two>, </separator_between_if_more_than_two>
<separator_before_last> and </separator_before_last>
<max_number_of_persons_to_display>2</max_number_of_persons_to_display>
<number_of_persons_to_display_if_more_than_max>1</number_of_persons_to_display_if_more_than_max>
<overflow>,<i> et al.</i></overflow>
<single_suffix></single_suffix>
<multi_suffix></multi_suffix>
</list>

Thanks Lionel. But where should I insert this?  The APA doesn't have a similar section and the Anglia style doesn't seeme to be on the web.

I am the end-user. I'm very appreciated in vancouver style. The only thing which not meet my desire is superscript. I've already read FAQ throughly but I don't get an idea to do. Where can I put the superscript macro in? How to do it?

The p. doesn't get there automatically, it's a string. From your example in your other post: { %Pages::%p.} you could just type { %Pages::%c.} . If you want internationalization out of the box (one style for multiple languages), then that is not possible with BibWord. This was a specific design choice.

What format string are you using for your authors? Check Formatting a Set of Contributors for general information on things you can change to format a set of contributors. Also check the example contributor format strings , they give you a basic idea of the possibilities of formatting a single name.

There is no source type standard. Check the first page of the documentation to get a list of the official 17 available types.

It is possible to have a Standard source type but it requires some changes to other files as well. If you plan on deploying the style to other users, I would advise against it. Just do a search on this forum, it contains a full explaination on this topic.

The original poster was creating his own style based on Harvard Anglia. So I very much doubt you have the same problem. What style are you using and what exactly is your problem?

For starters you shouldn't be using < and > but rather < and > .

Also, if you take a look at BookTitle then you see you didn't close the italics tags. You only have '<' at the end.

Thank you!

I have one question: how to change order of languages in bibliography in ABNT Author?

I need this:

Стефанов, Г., Кремакова, Б. Строителни свойства на българските льосови почви. София: Техника, 1960. 220 p.

Sarsby, R. Environmental Geotechnics. London: Thomas Telford, 2000. 584 p. ISBN 0-7277-2752-4.

not :

There is a sortkey element (which also contains a format string) which decides on the order of your sources in a bibliography.

Sorting by language is tricky. In Word 2007, you could enter your language through the UI. However Microsoft removed that option in Word 2010 and later version. Mostly because it was too complex for users to use: users frequently reported that their bibliography contained multiple languages without understanding why.

You are going to have to do some experimentation to see if you can get things to work the way you want.
