Hello

I am writing an article for an elsevier magazine and they give the following indications for the style:

Reference style
Text: Indicate references by number(s) in square brackets in line with the text. The actual authors can be referred to, but the reference number(s) must always be given.
Example: '..... as demonstrated [3,6]. Barnaby and Jones [8] obtained a different result ....'
List: Number the references (numbers in square brackets) in the list in the order in which they appear in the text.

Examples:

Reference to a journal publication:
[1] J. van der Geer, J.A.J. Hanraads, R.A. Lupton, J. Sci. Commun. 163 (2010) 51–59.

Reference to a book:
[2] W. Strunk Jr., E.B. White, The Elements of Style, fourth ed., Longman, New York, 2000.

Reference to a chapter in an edited book:
[3] G.R. Mettam, L.B. Adams in: B.S. Jones, R.Z. Smith (Eds.), Introduction to the Electronic Age, E-Publishing Inc., New York, 2009, pp. 281–304.

I do not know the name of the style, if it has anyone. Does any one know the name or it is already made in this page?

Thank you

It seems to be a standard number based style. At first glance, I would think it is something similar to (if not the same as) IEEE.

There is no longer a need to edit the files. They have all been upgraded about 10 days ago to support Word 2013.

If you still want to edit an XSL file, any text editor will do. So notepad and wordpad should both work. It might be better to use an xml editor though as that will most likely tell you are you messing up the document by getting unbalanced tags or other problematic issues.

Yves, thank you for the update. Were you able to address the problem with superscript in Word 2013? See my post above. Superscript styles work fine in Word 2010, but as soon as I start the bibliography manager in 2013 superscript disappeas. Superscript comes back when I take the document into Word 2010.

I don't have Word 2013 yet, so I can't test.

But you got me wondering if they finally might have fixed that bug and now correctly process HTML for in-text citations. You can test yourself by changing one of the format strings from

<format>{%RefOrder%}</format>

to

<format>{%RefOrder%}</format>

I really hate to create an account on a message board just to voice what seems like a rant, but I'm not sure where else would be relevant to express these thoughts, so...

Office 2007 and Office 2010 both have full support for MLA 7th Edition. To say that Office 2011 is somehow different is absolute crap.

This isn't Bibword's fault; it is clearly Microsoft's. That being said, I can't understand why Bibword, if you folks are going to bother producing various different paper/citing formats, would skip over adding the latest versions for APA and MLA.

And as for telling the OP here that they should just roll up their sleeves and create one of these things themselves is not exactly helpful advice, particularly if you're not a coder and have no way to act on such a suggestion.

Again, I apologize for the rant, but this really angered me.

Yves, others, hi there,

I'm also using Word for Mac 2011. I'm having difficulties with the alphabetical listing of my citations using Harvard Anglia style. I've seen in another topic that there is an Adjusted version for this style that resolves this issue. I've downloaded the file that you suggested there, followed the necessary steps, and although the style appears in the citation options, it doesn't fix the listing issue.

Can anyone help me out please? I'm submitting my MSc thesis soon, so I really need to get this fixed. Thanks!:)

New Post: Adapting Yves’ Chicago Footnotes xsl to process et al. citations in other Style Systems

Maybe this has already been covered, but here’s an outline of my current experiment.

I recently had to prepare a proposal on editing a book which will use Chicago footnote referencing and I immediately turned to Yves’ CMSFootnote.xsl, which is described as follows: “This style only provides in-text citations by means of footnotes. Currently, the bibliography field is not supported.”

I was very interested to see that it allows various forms of citations to be processed. Then, I wondered if it could be adapted to process ‘et al.’ citations. Next, I wondered if it could be amended to output a bibliography. After much trial and error (mostly error) I have found that it can do both.

First, I copied and pasted a complete Bibliography variable section from another XSL and adapted it to CMOS 16 Bibliography format. So, the Chicago referencing part of my project was sorted.

Then I reverted to a typical Harvard type bibliography format and adapted the ‘Short’ Citation version to output an ‘et al.’ citation in the Harvard format. I have only worked on the Book type to see if it will work, and so far, it does.

I have no coding experience and I ask if there are any potential problems with progressing further with this effort. I can see that the Harvard XSL code after the variables is more elaborate in parts than the Chicago, but it seems to work with the Harvard Bibliography variable section transplanted into the main body of the Chicago XSL.

Maybe this has already been done by someone out there?

Lionel,
Tau Editing.

I tried to use BibWord, but I have a Problem in Word 2013. With the Word 2013 Styles I can specify the pages in citations. As soon as I Change the style to one which is created with BibWord, the appropriate menu button disappears:

How can I activate These Buttons in BibWord Styles?

Thank you for an answer

I don't have Word 2013, so I can't say for sure. But one thing could be the hyperlinking feature of BibWord. Try disabling hyperlinking in your style.

In the XSL, very close to the top, there is:
<citation_as_link>yes</citation_as_link>
Try changing the yes to no and see if that fixes things.
